Core Skills Every Novice Needs

Good technique makes trail riding safer and far more enjoyable. These three areas form the foundation of every session we run.

01

Balance and Body Position

Learn the athletic stance that keeps you stable over bumps, with your weight centred and your elbows and knees relaxed.

02

Braking and Control

Discover how to brake smoothly with both wheels, use your rear brake for control and avoid skidding on loose surfaces.

03

Choosing the Right Line

Read the trail ahead, pick smooth lines through roots and ruts, and learn when to pedal and when to coast.

Getting Ready for Your First Trail Day

You do not need expensive kit to start. Wear closed shoes, comfortable layers that suit the weather and a helmet that fits snugly. Gloves help with grip and blisters, and sunglasses keep grit out of your eyes.

  • Bring a bike in good working order, with tyres pumped and brakes checked
  • Eat a light meal and bring water in a bottle or hydration pack
  • Tell your guide about any injuries or concerns before the session starts
  • Arrive a few minutes early to get your bike set up and meet your group

Not sure what to bring? Our team can advise you before you book.
